Heineken Green Energy Festival Dublin – A Real Treat For Music Fans!

The festival, which has been held annually since 1996, is a huge crowd pleaser. It presents a host of popular and well known Irish and International acts and artists, along with unsigned bands and singer/songwriters who compete in the "Band Challenge". This is a great opportunity to see some emerging performers showcase their talent and original material in front of a live audience.

It’s estimated that around 50,000 people attended the shows each year at various venues throughout the city. Dublin comes to life with spectacular live performances at the venues including Dublin Castle (which is an outdoor event with no seating so bring a raincoat if last year’s weather is anything to go by!), the Olympia Theatre, and the Button Factory (which was formerly known as the Temple Bar Music Centre).

Details for the 2009 event are not available, but rest assured we will keep you informed of details when they come to our attention!

In previous years, acts that have rocked the Castle include Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Supergrass, Sinead O’Connor, The Kaiser Chiefs, Lou Reed and former Stone Roses front man Ian Brown.

In keeping with tradition, there was an impressive festival line up in 2008 – legendary Australian singer/songwriter Nick Cave and his backing band the Bad Seeds headlined on the Saturday night, and on the Sunday night the main act was 2ManyDJs and guests. The closing night of the 2008 Festival was headlined by UK band The Kooks who were promoting their new record out at the time "Konk".

Tickets for the festival were reasonably priced for the standard of talent at Dublin Castle, and last year they ranged from 30 Euro to 50 Euro per night, and even better was that the tickets were sold independently for each of the three festival days. So rest assured – the 2009 Green Energy Festival is sure to include excellent performers!

As with all festivals we assume that tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster when the final details of the Heineken Festival are announced, along with the main acts.

How to get to Dublin Castle:

The Castle is located in the centre of Dublin, off Dame Street. It’s about 5 minutes walking distance from Trinity College if heading towards Christ Church Cathedreal.

In previous years the Festival has been a non camping event unlike Oxygen so be aware of this.
